SELECTION CONSIDERATIONS

What to check before you choose.

Optical placement

Check the distance from the scan window to the smallest barcode. Include the final enclosure window in sample testing; reflections, aperture size and mounting depth can change performance.

Trigger & host control

Decide whether reading is continuous, presence-driven or host-triggered. Confirm that the chosen model supports the trigger behavior and data output your controller expects.

Electrical integration

Match the supply voltage, connector, signal level and communication mode to the host. A serial interface name alone does not establish connector pinout or electrical compatibility.

Is a fixed-mount scanner the same as an OEM scan engine?

Not always. A scan engine is usually a compact component intended for integration; a fixed-mount scanner may include an enclosure, connector and additional electronics. Compare the mechanical drawing and electrical requirements for the exact configuration.
